Odoo vs SAP B1
A respected ERP, with a respected price tag. Read before you renew.
SAP Business One is a credible, mature mid-market ERP with a strong manufacturing pedigree and a deep partner ecosystem. Odoo wins on total cost of ownership, customisation flexibility, native website and eCommerce, and the absence of a per-user lock-in that grows with the business. Both are real options; here is when each is the right call.
Where SAP B1 wins
- Heavy mid-market manufacturing with deep production-planning and finite-capacity scheduling needs at scale
- Customers already inside the SAP ecosystem who benefit from upstream and downstream SAP integration
- Public-company-grade financial reporting with statutory audit needs that SAP partners specialise in
Where Odoo wins
- Total cost of ownership over five years, particularly when add-on partner modules (HANA Cockpit, ServiceLayer extensions) are factored in
- Native website, eCommerce, POS, and marketing all in the core suite, where SAP B1 needs partner add-ons
- Customisation flexibility: Odoo modules in your Git repository, no proprietary licence cost on the customisation itself

Who switches
A typical switcher.
Mid-market manufacturers, distributors, and trading companies on a SAP B1 deployment that has accumulated five-plus years of partner add-ons and is now facing a renewal cycle with quoted upgrade costs that look more like a re-implementation. They want to keep the operational maturity, lose the licence cost, and unify finance with the website and POS that currently live in separate add-ons.
Switching
What the move actually looks like.
A discovery-led migration. The mappings are well-known: business partners, items, BoMs, GL accounts, open documents. The discipline is in deciding what to keep, what to refactor, and what was a workaround that should not survive. Typical timeline 8 to 16 weeks, parallel-run preferred.

Honest answers about Odoo vs SAP B1.
Is Odoo "as enterprise" as SAP Business One? +
For mid-market customers, yes. Enterprise-grade is a function of how you implement, document, monitor, and govern your ERP, not the licence. We have shipped Odoo into businesses with thousands of users and tens of millions in revenue and the discipline holds.
Will we lose any functionality moving from SAP B1 to Odoo? +
For most mid-market deployments, no, with one caveat: if your SAP B1 has finite-capacity scheduling deeply embedded, you should plan to integrate Odoo with a dedicated APS (Asprova, Preactor) for that workload. We will tell you on a discovery call which features need a plan.
How does support compare? +
SAP B1 support runs through the partner ecosystem with vendor backstop. ERP Heritage support is in-house, with named SLAs and quarterly reviews. Different model; we believe it is a better one for mid-market, but we will not pretend the SAP partner network is anything but mature.
